Around the city
Local buses and microbuses are the cheapest option and are widely used by students. Ride-hailing apps and taxis are common in larger cities. Many students use a bicycle or scooter — if you ride, wear a helmet and confirm your insurance position before you do.
Between cities
Long-distance buses connect most of the country, and domestic flights serve the main regional centres. Journey times on mountain routes are longer than distances suggest, and monsoon conditions can disrupt road travel. Build slack into any travel that must connect with a flight.
Practical notes
Agree fares in advance where meters are not used, keep valuables out of sight on crowded transport, and share your route with someone when travelling at night.
