Safety and wellbeing

Everyday precautions, and where to get help if something goes wrong.

Everyday precautions

The precautions that apply in any busy city apply here: be aware of your belongings in crowds, prefer well-lit routes at night, and tell someone where you are going. Keep a scanned copy of your passport and visa separately from the originals.

Natural hazards

Nepal is seismically active and experiences monsoon flooding and landslides in some regions. Learn your building's evacuation route during orientation, keep a small emergency kit, and follow official guidance during severe weather.

Getting support

Your institution's international office is the first place to go with almost any problem — housing, health, academic or personal. Register with your own country's diplomatic mission if it recommends doing so, and keep its contact details to hand.
