Opening an account
Banks generally require your passport, your visa, evidence of enrolment and a local address. Your institution can usually confirm which banks it works with and issue any supporting letter you need.
Transferring money
Use formal banking channels for tuition and significant living costs, and keep every receipt. Informal transfer routes can be cheaper but leave you without a record, which matters if you later need to evidence how fees were paid.
Everyday spending
Cash remains widely used, alongside growing acceptance of digital wallets and cards in larger cities. Carry small denominations and avoid keeping large sums in your accommodation.
